Mdundo, has some very exciting news this week

One of our startups, Mdundo, has some very exciting news this week. The company, which is Kenya’s largest mobile app for legal music downloads, and Microsoft are teaming up to give a premium Mdundo account to users who purchase a Huawei 4Afrika phone. This means they’ll have access to a library of more than 2,000 songs directly from their mobile phone.
Plus, anyone who already owns a Windows phone can download the app, gaining access to some of Kenya’s best artists like Frasha, Octopizzo, Jua Cali, P-Unit, Mejja, Collo, Juliani, KenRazy, Alpha Msanii, Caltoz, Nazizi, and many more.
The Mdundo app is tailored to the African market, allowing users to download music and play it directly from the phone offline, which limits internet usage and saves on download costs. The phone is also affordable compared to other smart phones and is available for $200 USD.
Here’s some cool stats: A reported 60% of Africans already listen to music from their phone everyday. And with an estimated 100 million-plus smartphones in East Africa by 2016, Mdundo.com is set to blow up this market.
Key to making significant inroads in emerging markets, this partnership also allows Microsoft to offer the most sought-after options available through smartphones for lower-priced and non-feature phones.
Check them out in the Windows app store if you haven’t already!
